You may have gum disease if you have any of the following:

- your breath is less than desirable
- your teeth feel loose or have shifted.
- you have a bad taste in your mouth.
- your gums appear dark in color or are swollen
In reference to heart disease, yes there is a definite
link between gum disease,
heart disease, and other health issues. Studies have
shown there is a relationship
between gum disease and the following:
- diabetes (makes it difficult to control blood sugar
levels)
- heart disease (bacteria in your mouth can easily travel
to your heart)
- pneumonia (especially in the elderly)
- premature delivery and low birth weight
- rejection of transplants and artificial prosthesis
